Everbody knows what day that is, because thats the day when we file our tax returns, the deadline set by the US government. Well, it is not an exciting time for us. Usually, we don't like to worry about taxes. But some of us get a tax refund and we do look forward to those. So, there is good and bad involved in everything and there are deadlines everywhere all of the time. The deadline for paying your taxes is a critical time for you because if you don't file by the appropriate time, there are penalties and interests that are tagged on which cost you more than you would normally pay. If you choose not to file at all, then you can be liable for criminal prosecution and certainly higher interests rates and higher penalties. Well, I certainly have no fond affections for paying taxes nor for Uncle Sam in that regard, but I do know that I have an obligation and that those tax dollars are used to help individuals who are less fortunate, more indigent than myself, in addition to doing a lot of other suppotive governmental work that takes care of our nation and keeps it afloat.
Having said enough about taxes, to parallel spiritually is that we have another deadline to meet. The only thing peculiar about this deadline is that we don't know when the time will be. It is an amazing thing to think about, that any day could be your last day, your last day on earth, the last day you breathe your last breath, the last day you see the sun, the last day you feel the wind, or see your children and loved ones, any day could be your dying day. The filing deadline for eternal life is right now. You have to prepare yourself by not only accepting Christ Jesus and being buried with him in baptism, but living the kind of life that if you die any day, you will die walking right with the Lord. Because if you die in your sins where He is you cannot come. So, let's remember that our deadline is right now. Also, it is a deadline for us to do our good works. Those things that we said that we wanted to do, we would do, we wish we could do, we were going to do, those New Year's resolutions we made last January and the January before that. Well, it's time, filing date is upon you. You must now act or forever hold your peace. Well, let's hope that all of us make the filing deadline for heaven because now is the time for us to do and not just say. So live for God and don't be pretenders. By the way, when you get that other tax money back from your tax filing refunds, don't forget the Lord. Never forget the Lord, because when you do you are going backwards. God bless you.
