Flee Fornication!!!

In 1 Corinthians 6:18, Paul warns us to flee fornication. Throughout the Bible, God paints a dark picture for those who continue in this sinful practice.

According to 1 Corinthians 6:13-20, for a Christian to engage in fornication is to sin against his own body, to sin against Christ, to sin against the Spirit, for our bodies are temples of the Spirit, and to sin against God, for we belong to Him. It is even sinful to look with the purpose of lusting. Romans 1:26-27 condemns those who practice homosexuality.

Since the Bible clearly teaches that fornication is sinful, and that there will be harsh consequences for anyone who engages in it regularly, we need to avoid fornication.

So how do we avoid fornication?

  1. We must remember who we are. We are not animals regulated by just our physical impulses.
  2. Christians must keep in mind not only who they are but whose they are. We do not belong to ourselves but to Christ who purchased us with His own blood. What we do reflects credit or discredit on Christ.
  3. To flee fornication we must avoid those things which lead to fornication, or which weaken our resistance to fornication.
  4. Take the long range view. Sin has its pleasures, but they are for a short season.
  5. Do not consider your case hopeless. Some who slip and sin sexually may think that their entire life is shattered and that they might as well surrender to sin. No one should feel this way.
Keep thyself pure. Exercise that self-control and discipline which are so necessary to any meaningful success in life and which are essential to success in the new life in Christ Jesus. How grateful to God we ought to be for rescuing us from that which is sordid and soul-destroying. Keep thyself pure. You will be glad, both in time and in eternity, that you did keep yourself pure.
