Romans 12:2 says, "And be ye not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind . . ." We change behavior by changing the way we think, and by taking control of our circumstances. Here are some actions for change:
A person is basic good. "No one sets out to be bad."
All behavior is purposeful. This means that each person is 'doing the best he can' to meet his needs at this time.
A person can learn a better way to meet his needs.
A person needs to be able to make choices, even in a setting which limits freedom to make his own choices.
A person will not change if there is nothing for him/her - no payoff. Realize there are rewards for change.
By changing what we are doing, we change our thinking, our feelings and our physiology. Changing from wrong to right makes life feel completely manageable.
Change is not transactive. (You can only change self.)
People change in relation to how others change.
Change is not always deliberate. God can deliver you.
People do not change in relation to direct criticism.
No change is valid without sacrifice.
People desire change when they have sufficient hurt.
People desire change when they have sufficient boredom.
People usually desire change when they make a sudden discovery that they can change.
The Apostle Paul raved, "O wretched man that I am; who shall deliver me from this body of death?" He concludeed that God could through Jesus Christ our Lord! Let Jesus help you change.
